How to Use the Avon Promotion Tool to Drum Up Online Sales

Ready to ramp up your online sales? The Avon Promotion Tool will help you with that!

I use the Promotion Tool every campaign for my whole client list, and occasionally for specific clients. My most recent promotion brought me two $75 orders within a couple days! But almost every time I do one, it generates at least one new online order. And while that may not be earth-shattering, that's one order I didn't have before. Since I'm working on earning that trip to Hawaii this year, every little bit helps!

If you haven't tried it yet, the Promotion Tool was designed to let you customize offers for your clients. You can choose from several different promotions offered each month, and you can choose which clients to send them to!

Think about what you can do with a tool like that! 

• Send clients an offer for a free product for their birthday
• Send new online clients an offer for free shipping
• Send clients who place an order a discount on their next order
• Send a free product offer to a client who spends $500 in a year with you
• Send offers to your entire client list every campaign!

So, let's get started! The Promotion Tool is super-easy to use.

First, you want to make sure all of your clients are in your Address Book (in the Web Office) and that they are opted in to receive emails. (If they have chosen to opt out, you cannot opt them back in.)

Once you have done that, go to Manage Business > Promotion Tool and click on "Create New Promotion."

That will bring you to this screen:

Click on the drop-down arrow next to Promotion to select which current promotion you want to use. You will have a choice of four or five different options. Some of these may come with a cost to you, and some will be free to you. On the right side, it will tell you which ones have a cost. It also tells you the dates that the promotion will be available.

Once you have selected your promotion, you will make up a coupon code that will be specific to your promotion. Only the clients who receive your promotion by email will be able to use that code. You will not be able to post it on social media for others to use.

Here, you will also choose the start and end dates for your promotion. The email will not go out until the next day, so don't use today's date as the start date. You can choose an end date anywhere up until the last day the promotion is available, but I wouldn't have it for too many days, as people should have a sense of urgency to use the code before it expires. I usually give them no more than five days.

Once you do that, you'll click on Save & Continue. That brings you to the Select Customers section.

Here is where you can choose to send your code out to your entire clientele, or do customized offers for birthdays, etc. To select the whole address book, click on the square above the top name in the list. Or, click on the boxes next to the individual names you want to select. Then click Add Selected. Save and Continue to Add a Message.

Here's where you can personalize the message so your clients know it's not just another marketing email. If you're just sending to one person for a birthday, you can put her name in there. Keep your message brief (you only have 200 characters), but cheerful and conversational.

On the final screen, you will be able to review your promotion before submitting and correct any typos or errors you see.

Your clients will receive their personalized emails the next day. Then, the orders will start to roll in!

Why I Love Being an Avon Representative

 

Today (March 15, 2021) is my fourth anniversary of joining Avon. (At least this time - I also sold for a minute back in the 1980s.)

Sorry for the not-so-great pic - I took my 87-year-old mom to get her COVID vaccine on Saturday and we celebrated with PF Chang's. I was just getting over a head cold and didn't give much attention to my hair and makeup as we were just going to get her shot.

Anyway, I digress. 

I wanted to talk a little bit about my journey with Avon. I decided to come back to the brand shortly before I retired from my job in higher education administration, just for something to do and to earn a little extra money. I said I would give it a year and see how it goes.

What I didn't expect was to make President's Club - that's $10,000 in sales (by a hair, but still...) - and to start building a team in that first year.

I hadn't even thought about recruiting; I was just going to do a little selling and get my beloved Avon products at a discount. But shortly after I signed up, Avon offered an incentive that involved recruiting. And I'm a girl who loves a challenge. I had two organic recruits (a cousin and a friend who signed up without being asked), and I needed three to qualify for "nesters" (representatives without an upline who would be placed on the teams of those who met their goal). I found another friend to join in just the nick of time, and I was blessed with 13 nesters as a result of my efforts. Suddenly, I had a team of 16!

Well, I was liking those small leadership checks I was getting, so this die-hard introvert started thinking about recruiting more people. No, I don't approach strangers in parking lots, and I won't cold-call people because I hate phone calls and would not subject anyone else to them. But I do have a Facebook page for my business, and a Pinterest account. And if I'm talking with someone and it comes up in conversation, I'm quite comfortable talking about the opportunity. I also had some very nice and professional-looking recruiting flyers printed up that I can hand out or mail to people who might be interested in earning some extra money.

I started picking up new customers here and there, mostly through word of mouth, but also from Facebook, Google, and from leaving brochures everywhere I went - doctor's office waiting rooms, car dealership waiting rooms, laundromat, etc. I had a vinyl decal made for the rear window of my vehicle that includes my website and phone number, and I bought a little basket with a hook at the dollar store that I hang from my rear wiper with brochures in whenever I go somewhere. I place my business cards on every bulletin board I run across, and leave them with every server at every restaurant, along with their tip, a recruiting flyer and a sample in little zipper bags. I'm always thinking marketing and coming up with new ideas to try.

In my second year, I made President's Club again and earned the leadership title of Silver Ambassador ($2,000 in team sales per campaign). In my third year (2020), during the pandemic, I made Honor Society ($20,000 in personal sales) and reached Gold Ambassador ($4,000 in team sales).

My business has continued to grow at a slow and steady pace, which is alright with me. I have team members from all parts of the country. I have earned countless incentives, from free products and gift cards to free vacations to Jamaica (which was sadly cancelled) and Dominican Republic (happening this fall). Currently I'm striving to earn that trip to the Big Island, Hawaii (see my previous post). My old job never did anything like that!

I have attended Avon conventions in Nashville, Columbus, and New Orleans. What fun and exciting times those were! Lots of learning and networking, exploring the cities with friends, plus free live concerts and parties! Last year's convention had to go virtual due to the pandemic, but Avon did a bang-up job of making it fun with lots of prize giveaways and a full weekend of online training classes.

But the VERY BEST part of being an Avon Representative is the sisterhood (and brotherhood) that comes with it! I've made so many new friends through this business - both customers and other Representatives. And not only Representatives on my team, but also ones I've met at convention or even through Facebook that I've become close with. Avon is a family; a community of love and support. It's truly amazing. I can honestly say that most of the folks I interact with are people I have met through this business. This pic shows five generations of Avon Representatives - me on the right, with my "mom" Gena, "great-grandma" Lori, "grandma" Teena, and my "daughter" Chris in the lower corner. Chris and I actually went to high school together, and Gena and I worked together at the university.

Seriously, If I had retired four years ago and not joined Avon, I don't know where I would be right now. Most of my friends from my old job have also retired or left the university, and we don't get together as often as we used to (even before the pandemic). I think I would be a sad old crazy cat lady, almost never leaving my house. Okay, I'm still an old crazy cat lady, but I'm not sad and my days are filled. Even if I don't leave the house, I'm working my business on the computer. And I can do as much or as little as I feel like on any given day.

One of my goals for this year is of course to earn that trip to Hawaii, which I will have to sell about $33,000 for. If I make it, I'll be really close to making Rose Circle ($35,000), so why not just go for that too? That will increase my commission from 40% to 45% on Beauty & Jewelry, so that's pretty enticing.

Another goal is to achieve Bronze Leader status, which is $8,000 in team sales. My team continues to grow, so I think this is doable. It's a stretch for sure, but we got this! A few of my team members are interested in becoming leaders as well, and I am all about encouraging them to shoot for the stars. If an introvert like me can come this far in four years, anyone can achieve their dreams!

Here's how to earn it with your personal sales:

For New Representatives (non-PRP Representative who joined on or after December 11, 2019), you can earn a Trip for One by selling $12,000 during the incentive period and a Trip for Two by selling $17,000.

For 2020 Non-PRP Representatives (Contenders and Premier Level Representatives who joined prior to December 11, 2019, you can earn a Trip for One by selling $16,000 during the incentive period and a Trip for Two by selling $23,000.

Out With the Old! Time to Purge Those Nasty Beauty Products and Try Some New Stuff!

Your beauty products have a shelf life.

According to healthline.com, makeup will last for two to three years, even if unopened. Once opened, it will start to break down faster. 

I admit that I've been guilty of keeping makeup much, much longer than that. I won't even tell you how long, because it's embarrassing! But I have been getting better at offloading stuff that is just ridiculously old. I mean, why keep lipstick or blush with funky colors that you hate, just because you spent good money on them? Every time you look at that product, you'll be reminded of how you wasted money. Throw it out! Then you won't be reminded anymore. (says me to me)

What better time to purge than at the end of the year? Especially a year like this one that we can't wait to see the end of. Purging is going to feel really good this year!

So how do you decide which items to toss? 

First, check for expiration dates. If it's passed, toss.

Give it a sniff. If it smells like paint, the oils in it have gone rancid. Toss! If it just smells funky, toss.

If your mascara is more than six months old, toss. You don't want to mess with your eyes and bacteria.

If your blush or powder gets that oily film over the top (I used to scrape that off with tweezers, ew!), just toss it. That goes for powder eye shadows as well.

Lipsticks may look fine, but really, if they're more than two years old, you should toss.

Always, always, when in doubt, throw it out! Bacteria in your makeup can cause skin irritation, pimples, rashes, and even staph and eye infections.

As far as your skin care products, if you're using them every day, you'll probably use them up before they go bad. These products usually have expiration dates on the packaging, so you can always check that. Or if it seems off in smell or texture, replace it.

Just a tiny bit on your fingertip dabbed under and around the eye area feels so good, and helps keep the area firm, resilient, and smooth. This lightweight cream cools on contact and provides 26 hours of moisture. Contains pennywort (a/k/a cica), an herb known to soothe skin and boost elasticity. No matter what your age, you will love this stuff. I'm 65 years old, and look how bright my eyes look!

The Face Shop Rouge Powder Matte Lipstick - I'm not usually one for matte lipstick, but this one glides on smooth without that dry, cakey feeling, and it has staying power too! I love the Rose Powder shade.

Mono Pop Eyeshadow Palette - All the shadows you need, in one convenient palette! Choose from Mood Coral or Mood Brown. Each one has a mix of matte and shimmer shades for day or evening.

Rice Water Bright Foaming Cleanser - I love love love this cleanser! It feels so soft and creamy, and has a delicate fragrance. Makes a lot of lather, and leaves my skin so soft and clean feeling. And the size of this tube! It's huge - a full 10 ounces. My first tube lasted me over six months!

Anew Hydra Fusion Daily  Beauty Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50 - I can't stress enough how important it is to use a good sunscreen every day, all year. I could have lost my life over a little grayish spot on my nose that turned out to be melanoma, because back in the 1950s and 60s when I was a kid, no one really knew or thought about sun protection. My mom used to put t-shirts on my brother and I at the beach to "protect" us from getting burned. Yeah, that didn't work. I had second-degree burns pretty much every summer. Burn, peel, burn again. I'm very fair and never tan. So at age 50, I got this spot on my nose that people kept trying to wipe off because it looked like a pencil smudge. Thanks to my dermatologist and a fantastic plastic surgeon, I only lost the tip of my nose and had to endure a few weeks of stomach-turning cleaning activities I won't get into here. But the point is, PLEASE WEAR YOUR SUNSCREEN! Skin cancer is no joke, and it's definitely not fun. That said, this Anew Hydra Fusion sunscreen is the best I've ever used. It has SPF 50, yet doesn't feel thick and greasy like some of the other brands. It's lightweight and goes on smoothly, and you can apply your primer and foundation right after putting it on. I use this every single day, even if I'm not planning on leaving the house.

Isa Knox Anew Collagen Booster Rejuvenating Serum Ampoules - These little "pills" (as my customer Linda calls them) really pack a punch. Each one contains enough serum to apply to your entire face and neck - you only need a drop in each area. Contains a powerful peptide blend that boosts the natural production of collagen. As we get older, we lose collagen, which causes the skin to sag. Boosting collagen production results in firmer, more elastic skin with fewer wrinkles.

FMG Cashmere Lipcream - These Lipcreams are infused with antioxidant vitamins C and E, shea butter, avocado and coconut oils to nourish and soften lips. Nine sumptuous shades come in your choice of two formulas - matte and satin! The matte comes in a slimline case and is not drying at all - it feels soft and creamy on your lips. The satin shades come in a traditional tube. All of them are beautiful!

Magix Prime Face Perfector - Avon has come out with a lot of new primers lately, and I've tried them all, but my favorite is still good old Magix Prime! It smooths, mattifies, and blurs all of the little imperfections, like discolorations and tiny wrinkles, so your foundation glides on over it for a flawless finish. This vegan formula is infused with a hydrating blend of fleece flower and rose extracts and has an SPF of 20. Some people even wear this alone (but I'm not that brave). And the price is a bargain!

 

Glimmersticks Eyeliners - A must-have for everyone's makeup bag! I swear I have every color in mine. And they are one of my top-selling items too. Creamy sticks go on easily, don't smudge, and last all day. So many fun colors, and they come in Cream, Waterproof, and Diamonds formulas. Don't forget about Glimmersticks Brow Definers and Lip Liners, too!

Hi-Brow Sculpting Gel - This stuff is amazing! If you're in my age group, you may have overplucked your brows back in the 70s, only to find out they don't come back. At least that's what I did. Ugh! But since I discovered Hi-Brow, I can fill in all those bare spots with this fabulous gel that gives the illusion of real hairs. It's water-resistant so it doesn't come off during the day either. Contains oil-controlling clay and conditioning kiwi extract and vitamin E. You do need to use the waterproof eye makeup remover for it.

Love at 1st Lash Mascara - I've been on a quest to find a mascara I love for the last 50 years - and I've finally found it! Love at 1st Lash makes my lashes long and lush, with no clumping and no raccoon eyes. The Love Complex™ contains lycopene, olive oil, and vitamin E, plus volumizing and lengthening heart-shaped fibers and rich black pigments. Whatever's in it, it's magical! And it's paraben- and sulfate-free, too. Comes in regular and waterproof formulas.
